John Le Carre meets Office Space meets HP Lovecraft

I am reading and enjoying Charles Stross’s Laundry Files series, about a secret British government bureaucracy, code-named “The Laundry,” charged with fighting paranormal threats while doing meetings, arguing about expense reports, and other bureaucracy things.

The author does interesting notes for the novels on his blog. Here are the notes for the most recent volume I completed, “The Annihilation Score.”

I’m now reading the next book, “The Nightmare Stacks,” whose hero is a young math nerd in his 20s going through the things young men in their 20s do: Quarterlife crisis, looking for love, coping with his first big career setback, trying to honor his parents while keeping them at arm’s length, being a vampire, preparing for the apocalypse – typical 20-something stuff.
